World Championship, Lisdoonvarna
Competitors
come from all over the world for this event which takes place
during the first weekend in September each year. As the event
coincides with the Matchmaking Festival a carnival atmosphere
pervades the town with music, dancing, traditional sessions, etc.
at numerous venues.
Cois na hAbhna, Ennis
This
auditorium is Clare's Comhaltas Headquarters. It houses a unique
archive of materials on traditional music, song, dance and folklore
mainly pertaining to County Care. Other activities at the Centre
include set dancing classes on Wednesday nights plus céilis
every weekend.
Fleadh Nua, Ennis
The
Fleadh Nua festival takes place the last weekend in May each year.
Tuition is provided by master players on all traditional instruments
at the various workshops. Dance and song are also catered for.
Pub and street sessions plus concerts are a major feature of the

Cruinniu na Mbad, Kinvara
Cruinniu
Na mBad (Gathering of the Boats) takes place the last weekend
in August each year. Because of the involvement of ancient sailing
vessels (particularly Hookers), ancient links are maintained between
Kinvara and the people of Connemara. The festival is also a celebration
of the diversity of Irish culture in the form of traditional music,

Fleadh
Na gCuach (Cuckoo Fleadh) takes place annually during the last
weekend in April. Events include pub and street sessions with
traditional musicians coming from all over Ireland, art and literature
exhibitions, drama, etc., plus a guided nature walk led by a leading
environmentalist.

Opera
Week usually takes place in March/April each year. The event is
organised by Ennistymon Choral Society. Each year features a different
opera. Opera Week is always very well attended.

Matchmaking
is one of Ireland's oldest traditions. This event lasts for all
the month of September. Dances start from 12.00 noon each day
and carry on into the small hours of the next morning during the
festival. Traditional sessions in the pubs and set dancing exhibitions,

of the legendary Doonagore traditional musician Micho Russell
(1915-1994). Musicians and lovers of Irish culture come from all

contribution to the successes of Irish music internationally.
